Harry Bollback

Biographical Sketch

The story of Harry Bollback, Founder of WORD OF LIFE, is not the normal tale of a Christian leader. Who would have imagined that an aspiring teenage concert pianist would give up a seemingly great career in music on the concert stage to go to the jungles of Brazil to reach the primitive people of our present age with the Gospel of Christ.

This Brooklyn, New York teenager, who met Jack Wyrtzen in a youth meeting on Saturday night, was to find himself at the piano in a jail service the next morning ministering with Jack and the members of a new youth work called WORD OF LIFE. Thus was the beginning of over 50 years of ministry that includes five years in the jungles of Brazil, 14 years as Founder and Director of WORD OF LIFE camps and Bible Institute in Brazil, co-Director of WORD OF LIFE Fellowship, Inc. in the United States of America and now, along with the late Jack Wyrtzen, as Founder of WORD OF LIFE.

Harry Bollback is living proof that you never out give God. Although it seemed like Harry was giving up his music to serve the Lord, the Lord chose to give it back to him as a vehicle to communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His bicentennial musical drama, "Let Freedom Ring," was a nationwide telecast which, since 1976, has been rebroadcast each year. Many musical dramas have toured the country annually and have been enjoyed by thousands. These include "Ring the Bells" and "God's Portrait of Love" telling the story of Christmas, and "The Passion Play," which depicts the life, death, resurrection and glory of Jesus Christ. "The Passion Play" has been produced for national television and has aired during the Easter season.

In recent years, Harry Bollback developed the teaching musical drama and presented "The Revelation," "Daniel" and the book of "Genesis" as well as three more thematic musicals, "The Sights and Sounds of Christmas," "America, I Still Can Hear Your Song" and "As the Arrow Flies." All of these programs have been effective in reaching people with the Gospel.

The story of Harry Bollback, Founder of WORD OF LIFE, missionary, evangelist, educator, musician, and friend to thousands of teenagers, is a testimony of the fact that a life sold out to the Lord Jesus Christ is the most exciting life available.

WORD OF LIFE is a non-denominational, Bible-believing organization, reaching youth with the Gospel of Christ in 46 countries on six continents through camps, Bible Clubs, Bible Institutes, radio, television and youth rallies.
